Modem displays no dial tone

I have a pentum 133, with 32 Ram, running windows 95.
I checked all the settings and it continues to display no dial tone.
what are the possible problems

There are many factors to consider.

What make and model modem do you have?

Is this a new problem, or has the modem worked before?

Is the modem connected correctly to the wall and computer (modem). Many modems have 2 connectors, one for a phone and one for the modem to wall connection.
