Is the latest monitor model always the best? Ok, now i am thinking of buying a samsung 17" monitor. I search this section 'roughly' but didnt find any monitor model names but everyone if not most just mention the [brand name]+monitor. I went to this site
http://www.samsungusa.com/cgi-bin/nabc/product/b2c_product_subtype.jsp?eUser=&prod_path=%2fComputers+and+Related%2fMonitor%2fCRT +-+Flat

and these are all the 17" models: 753DF,765MB,700IFT,700NF,763MB,757MB
Which is the best model to get and can tell me which is the latest.
Most of the dot pitch are 0.2mm. So other than that, what other feature to look at?
The other friend of mine however recommends me Sony. But he didnt mention which model. I went to check and found that Sony uses 0.24 aperture grille pitch. Whats the different between aperture grille pitch and dot pitch. Which is better anyway? .2 dp or .24 agp.
Please state the models name so that i wouldnt be going to a shop and just ask for a Sony monitor. And he will be going, HuH?

About partitioning, C: OS, D: programs E: games...so on. I re-install the winxp and format that partition again. After that, the programs and games that are on D: E: is still there but it is not in Start->programs.
And i think it is not in the registry either as i have reformat and reinstall it. So i assume it can't work anymore. But i thought 1 of the advantage of partitioning is that when u reinstall the OS, the 'data' is still in the other partition. Does this "data" only refers to MP3 or save files that are not related to the OS?

Have a nice day everyone. :)

hey guys, i went to search and found out about it. Its actually using either the shadow mask or aperture grill technology. The rest are the technical details. However it mention that one advantage of Aperture Grill CRT over Shadow Mask CRT is that the former allows more electron beams to pass through the phosphor. This results in what many consider to be a brighter and sharper overall picture. This type of tyube is also vertically flat, due to the nature of the stripes layout that run straight from the top of the monitor to the bottom. As the display curves outward from left to right and not from top to bottom, most people find that aperture grill tubes reduce glare better, resulting in a more pleasant and less distorted image.
The major disadvantage of using the Aperture Grill is that the bunch of thin metal strips does not have the same physical stability as the metal sheet of a Shadow Mask. This means the metal strips in the Aperture Grill are susceptible to vibration. To correct this problem, one(for 15" monitor) to two(for 17" monitor), or more(for larger monitor) this stabilizing wires are horizontally attached across the screen. This eliminate any problems with the metal strips moving around.
However, this causes the appearance of faint lines where the stabilizing wires are.

Any of you have the aperture grill crt which you can see the faint line?
Is the faint line obvious?

Sony's popular Trinitron and Mitsubishi Diamontron uses aperture grill.
And here it says: LG Electronics' proprietary Flatron technology is unique as it uses a slightly different method known as Stripe Type that eliminates visibility of the stabilizing wires.

So which monitor is good now?

Hey,
Also take a look at Viewsonic. They usually get the very highest reviews

We had Sony Trinitrons at our old workplace and the lines were very obvious. Not maddeningly annoying (to me, anyway), but obvious nonetheless.

My friend has an old 17" Dell-branded Trinitron monitor (from a workstation PC). I have a 1.5-year-old 19" Viewsonic E95 shadow mask monitor. Both screens are near-flat. The two horizontal lines on his monitor aren't very noticeable unless you look closely (at least to us), but the main point here is that the image quality between the two is virtually identical.

Trinitron and Diamontron monitors are excellent. So is a decent to high end shadow mask monitor. Flat monitors are even better as they tend to have less geometric distortion (LCD's have none) and are easier to view from all angles. If you're worried about the horizontal lines on aperture grilles or the seeming 'low quality' of shadow masks, just pop into your local PC superstore and take a look as their line of monitors.

It's a good idea anyway, as you may find that you have a preference, an alergic reaction to one kind :p, or you're like me and really don't care. :D Whatever the case, just remember that if you're not going for an LCD monitor, pick up the biggest CRT you can! 19" works great for me!
