Hi - Does anyone have any ideas on how to get wfw311 to run at 800 X 600 or better? I've got an old 512mg WD hdd onto which I put a fresh install of dos6.22 and wfw311. I've swapped out my regular hdd with this one and I'm up and running wfw311 at blazing speed, but only at 640 X 480. Otherwise it runs very well, although I have yet to tackle the modem and sound card (both are pci, and neither is read by wfw311).
I've got a geforce4 ti4400 plus a voodoo3 2000 (pci) in a dual monitor setup, and I can switch via bios as to which is primary. Now, on either one, when I try to increase the resolution to either 800 by 600 or 1024 by 768 using the native windows drivers, all I get is a 1 inch strip across the top of the screen. You can see part of wfw311 and it actually looks like it's running at a higher resolution. So I'm close to getting it to work, but not quite there.
Now, I'm doing this just for fun, I don't expect awesome graphics, but I'd love to run wfw at least at 800 by 600. I've tried adjusting my bios agp settings to 1X, but no effect. Any ideas? Is is possible the refresh rate I last used on winXP or win98se (my usual OSes, I have a dual-boot system) prior to using wfw might have an effect? Also, I have looked high and low for 3.1 or 3.11 drivers for either card. I know that no one officcially supports drivers for either card for win 3.1/311, but maybe there is something out there. I have noticed that the nvidia riva tnt card has drivers for win 3.1. Any chance those might work? Thanks all. I've got to admit, it is a gas to run wfw311 with my current system and watch it run so fast. I still remember how slow it was. wfw311 was my first windows system and it really seemed to run slow compared to my previous system, which was dos 3.3 upgraded to dos 5.0 which I loved.
