I have just installed XP pro on my spare computer. Everything seems to be OK except upon shutdown, when instead of the usual closing down sequence and the computer turning itself off, I get the XP logo back again with a message that says "it is now safe to turn your computer off "........I then have to manually push the on/off switch to turn it off.
Just spent 2 hours (ish) trying to resolve this........without any success.
Anyone got any suggestions ?

Probobly has something to do with your *ACPI*
Enable ACPI in your BIOS, and then in the Power Settings in Control
Panel.

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Power Options. Click the APM tab.
Check to select the Enable Advanced Power Management Support check box,
and then click OK.

A lot of different things can cause this, but a simple one to try first is this:

Right click on desktop/Properties/Screensaver tab/Power button/APM Tab, then check "Enable Advanced Power Management support"

If that doesn't work, post back. There are other solutions.

(Edit) Man, you just got to be fast around here! :D (And yes, ACPI in your bios is a good thing to check too) And YODA's way to get to the APM tab may be a little faster. ;)
