I was installing a new copy of XP Home on my friends computer and noticed something strange that I had not seen before on other XP Home installs that I've done. When I right click on 'My computer' and choose 'properties', on the 'General Tab' under the heading 'Computer', the word *processor* is spelled wrong. It is spelled *prosussor*. Has anyone else seen this on other installs of XP Home? Is there a way to correct the spelling?

If this wasn't a clean install, I would suspect that there could be a virus infection or some other malware. You may want to run a full set of security scans.

This was a fresh install on a new machine. What I've done so far is update windows, install video card drivers, and dvd software. I'll run a virus scan and check for malware before I load anything else.

I googled prosussor windows xp and pulled up a few Japanese pages. If that's the only weird thing you've noticed, then I doubt you got a version of Windows XP meant for release in Japan - but maybe you got a processor meant for release in Japan and Windows is reading the information from the chip???

I use XP Home. I just checked what it says on my system and there is a blank spot where it should say processor.

My wife uses XP Home and it says *processor* with the correct spelling. I ran a virus scan and checked for malware on the machine in question but it was clean. Out of curiosity, I think I'm going to start over and reinstall everything, since I don't have much loaded. This time I'm going to take it slow and check the spelling after each program/driver install. The board is an Epox 8RDA+ with an AMD Barton 2500.
