Using this link http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/download/corporate.asp
Windows 98 users can download and save resusable updates and save them in case complete reinstalls are necessary (unlike the normal Updates that do not have this facility).

As Microsoft is withdrawing support for 98 (does that include 98SE in addition?), would it be beneficial to download ALL the Security and Critical Updates that have appeared over the years, as there are about 20 of them in all.

Also, why does Windows Update continually say I need the 'Internet Explorer Service pack' when my Update list says I have installed it 4 times.

Mike, are they all the same SP version? Could it be they came out with a new one since your last update?

I'm not absolutely sure about this. If Microsoft withdraws 'support'
for 98 (and 98SE?) will they withdraw the security Updates, etc, as well? If so, users will only have whatever is contained in their original instllation CDs.

I got a 404 following your link, mike2002.

I'm aware that you can dl the updates individually for later use. What I'd like is a dl that will run all of the critical updates at once so I don't have to restart the machine in between each one.

A couple of things..

1. MS will continue to have the updates available for download and the MSKB articles will still be afround...but they could pull them at anytime after support is stopped. the withdrawl of support basically means that you are on your own...no more phone support, doubtful about any "official" email support, etc.

2. Usually when MS stops support on a product that means all updates stop, but recently, a couple of major problems have come up and they were forced to do something other then "well, that is no longer supported so update" line they are so fond of.
