I'm just going through the broadband minefield. 2 under consideration are

telecom plus 512 @ 25 pm inc vat + modem (about 48) no connection fee

tiscali 256 @ 19.99 pm free modem + 35 connection

many are offering cheaper packages but reduced service, and of course some are not available in my area. (cheshire uk)

also concern re filters + extensions.

my main socket has a radio phone, an extension cable to the back room feeding fax machine & pc. there is a fixed line to one bedroom an extention cable to another.

would apreciate some feedback from bb users,

Have a look at www.eclipse.co.uk
20.00 + vat. Per month
One months contract.
No limit on downloads (A few are setting 1GB)
Not to sure at moment about connection fee.
Router with all needed accoutriments (now ain't that a good word :) )
Built in modem and firewall - 4 port 84.00 / One port about 64.00.

It has also been voted the fastest broadband in hte UK at the moment.

Hello Vic
I am using Tiscali broadband, and since joining them in Dec 2002 have found them very good with Win98SE. Downloads usually at 50kps.
However I have never yet been able to connect to them with linux !
I have tried several methods using both Mandrake and RedHat
If you are into linux and manage to connect using the alcatel 330 adsl modem I would be most glad to hear how you did it.

Regards
Max

tiscali seems pretty good, also eclipse, but still some concerns. am still thinking telecom plus as there is no contract. so I can close and change at any time.

I do not have linux on at the moment, did have mandrake & have now got red hat which I think might go on my second pc.

some advice reqd on modem & filters.

my 1st p-c (amd 750) does not have a n/w card but 2nd pc does. I was thinking that ethernet would give the best connection, but then usb would be more convenient.

I assume with usb I could plug either pc into it ?

then there is .., whether I wish to network the pc's at later stage. alathough I do not at the moment.

& cables and filters, is it best to get these from seperate supplier?
