If I need a LAN card for IDSL connection I'll get it then. What do you think. I may rethink video card but I don't anticipate any 3D and can upgrade later to 8X AGP. Remember I already have Antec True 430 and WDC 80GB, 8MB cache HDD.

Your wish list is empty? Was that supposed to happen? :p

It worked when I previewed the post but I was logged in. The wish list thing at Newegg has always been a little hard for me to figure out. Not nearly as clearcut navigation as their products section. No matter what I do it still always says "wishlist empty", even when looking at the wishlist and it's listed right there on the same page. I got my other one to view by just going in and finding it on the lists. I'll post back when I get it working.

See if this works. I am trying to get a nice fast stable system with plenty of room to upgrade video, memory, processor and HDD to SATA later as get good prices. No 3D needs anticipated. Already have Antec True 430 and WDC 8MB HDD.

That wishlist looks good. I like your choice of the Matrox G550 - excellent video card for 2D, and like you said no 3D needs anticipated. And you will have plenty of room to upgrade with that mobo. I have that CD-RW drive! LiteOn's are awesome! Known as the game hacker's CD-RW drive. For backing up games that you already own, of course. ;)

Can't think of anything else major you'd need. Just don't forget the rounded IDE cables!

Looks real good and that DVD is a real good price. The hard drive can be had for less, but I take it you are using the one you already have. I am a little surprised the board doesn't have ethernet, it is pretty common on boards these days. Looks like you will have a nice system overall...

I believe the retail version of that board comes with round cables. Part of the driving force behind this is the other chiropractor who has the Dell I helped him pick out and customize(see other thread). That 2.53 P4 system just flys compared to my 1600+ Athlon and Biostar board - and it's smooth - and stable - and quiet, dammit. He's pleased and I'm apparently jealous. LOL

You guys are experts. What are some of the best rationalizations for going ahead and spending the money?

The only rationalizations I can tell you are that it is fun to play with and you learn a lot building your own. You don't really need that speed and the equipment will be mostly obsolete before you get it finished, so it is for the fun of it more than anything else.

I could probably still be running my old 486 to do most of the things I do on the computer, but I wouldn't like it....

That's all the rational you need, Doc! :D
