Need to get a notebook for my wife so she can do her photography work near her drawing board.
I know nothing about what to get or what it should include. I also could use some help on what would be good to buy as far as a wireless network setup. About 100 feet between the 2 rooms. I am running XP home on p4 box.
Thanks Mark

Dell and Sony have some good set-ups for creating and editing pictures and multimedia. Sony has had especially the slots for Digital camera memory sticks if you have those. As for a wireless router I have a Linksys WRT54G instant wireless 54g router. I like its performance a lot. If the room is 100 feet away like you say she will get a weak/slower signal and you may need a signal booster. I don't really know the range of the router nor have I ever tested that. If you do get this and the instant wireless notebook card DO NOT USE LINKSYS's SOFTWARE. It didn't even work on my dad's laptop when i tried to run it. You'll have to set it up manually which isn't that hard anyway with windows XP.

Hey Killer,
Good idea on the Sony as that's the dig camera we use, so I have memory sticks galore. What should be in the notebook [bays] and what should be add-ons? How much does the whole wireless thing run [ballpark]
ThanksMark

I'm not very familiar with sony models but I was lookin around and saw this (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=DO4n01uNBHon1WVLZWct2BSCsJeHM5sbsy8=?Cat alogCategoryID=4ysKC0%2eNE74AAAD1tF_2AjA7&Dept=cpu&TemplateName=item%2fsy_item_b&ProductID=zkgKC0%2eNC2kAAAD1Quf2AjA9&ContentItemPage=true) one for $1600. It has some good movie and picture editing software and optional memory stick ports. It does have built in wireless LAN. Its the 802.11b. Not quite the 54g, but wireless. You will still have to get a router:
WRT54G Linksys (http://linksys.com/products/product.asp?prid=508&grid=)
I cant find a link to the 802.11b because i have to go to my sisters dance recital but you should be able to find it at linksys.com
I Have to second the vote for the Sony
Get the best Video you can and best screen
a P4 2.0 M
256 meg works with adobe and XP home But 512 wouldn't hurt
each model is setup for a network in one way or another
a wireless kit to include the laptop shouldn't cost much over $200
if that much
