I've never been an online chatter. These forums are about as close as I've ever come to it. But I thought I'd check out the PCGuide channel, so I downloaded mIRC. Repeated attempts to connect result in the attached messages.
I'm running 98SE, ZoneAlarm (free) on a cable modem.
Updated AV & spyware checks are clean.
Nothing to do with you...your whole IP block is banned..the * before the knology.net indicates a wildcard, for everyone.
Yeah, it is a bit harsh, but because of dynamic IPs in order to prevent a particularly offensive creep from connecting to the network that is the way it has to be.

Then that would also be why the java client isn't working for me?

Chris...the same happened to me late last year. Years ago Mirc was a breeze but I dropped it for ICQ. Decided to try Mirc again but ended up getting the same results you did. I did a little snooping around and it seemed Mirc was having its share of widespread problems of which I don't remember now. As far as the java client goes, I've used it in the past (not for the past 6 months) and never had a problem (using the same setup as you).
pentachris...you will have to email help@ausnet.org and give them the details (basically what is the the screenshot you posted).
