My son's computer kept giving a message stating there was an error and unable to load windows. I fdisked it. Now when it starts up it goes through the memory scan and that stuff then gets stuck on "verifying DMI Pool Data". I tried using the Windows Start up floppy but it is not responding. Can anyone help me?
Thanks!

Hi fisher5,

Please give some specs. Type of computer, what operating system and most importantly, what do you mean by "I fdisked it"?

I do not know much about this computer. We bought it used. It is a PC and is operating Windows 98.

When in DOS I typed FDISK and deleted the partition and recreated a partition in order to reload everything.

Any help is appreciated greatly.

This computer is running a Pentium II processor and BIOS v4.51PG if this helps!

sounds like the computer cannot locate the bootsector. So ? something is amiss boot with a floppy After it boots from thefloppy, run "Fdisk /mbr" (without the quotes) to restore the master boot record.

OK. When you run fdisk successfully you delete all data and set a new partition active. You need to put a win98 boot disk in the floppy drive and restart the computer. When you get to the A:\> prompt, type in FORMAT C: and hit enter. This gets the harddrive ready to take the operating system.

Do you have a win98 install disk?

How do I get back to DOS when it is still stuck on "verifying DMI pool data"? The startup disk is not responding.
Thanks!

If it wont boot from the floppy, I would try another one. Do you have another win98 computer on which you can make a boot disk?

I believe that the A drive is not responding. I have 98 on CD but that is not helping either

If you're sure the boot disk is good the only other thing I can think of is to replace the drive. They're pretty cheap now a days.

One other thing. Some of the w98se disks were bootable. You can try going into the BIOS setup and setting the boot order to CD first. Have you been in the BIOS before?

I have been in BIOS before but only to tell it to restore defaults.
I will try setting it to read the CD ROM first and see how that goes. I am also creating a new boot disk from the system that I am on right now.
Thanks!

Steve, I think you are on the right track. Here is a link that I think might help: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000474.htm

It even has links to BIOS help, so it may save you a bunch of typing.
