Upgrade or Downgrade ?

Is it an upgrade or a downgrade that is the question.

I have a Gigabyte GA-7DXR motherboard it has promise RAID, a Athlon 1500+ CPU and 256 MB DDR RAM, I do not use the RAID at the moment but is handy expansion for the future as it can IDE drivers loaded.

I am being offered by someone who wants the RAID ability a MSI motherboard (do not know the exact board yet), with a Pentium 4 2.0 GHhz CPU 256MB of RAM but only running at 100 MHZ.

Is it worth the swap to a P4 CPU that is faster but while losing DDR RAM and going with PC 100. ???

I'd go with the P4. Chances are any MSI motherboard that runs a 2ghz P4 will also use DDR RAM. There are a couple that can use both, but I can't find one that just uses 100mhz ram. That 100mhz FSB turns into 400mhz because P4 boards are "quad pumped". At least I "THINK" that's how it goes.

Call him up and ask him which board he has. ;)

Is the P4 a socket 423 or 478 if it is a socket 478 is it the Willimette or Northwood. The 2GHz P4 came in 3 flavors which one are you getting? What model of MSI board is it?
