After downloading Spy-bot and AD-ware I have had two unwanted visits. The first is Bow Wave from sam at wavyline with a note asking if you do not require this info click on to the above to discontinue receiving it .I clicked on,typed in unsubscribe and immediately a message from MSN saying e-mail address unknown.
The second annoying one is/was from `MIKE ROBERTS` advertising an Oriental Banking something or other. I have a friend by that name, otherwise I would not have opened it. What now:confused:

I do not reply to E-mail I dont trust, whether it be to try and stop them or otherwise. It may be a scam within a scam.

Getting a virus program and having it label your e-mail as "spam" when it is, helps.
With Outlook Express you can then choose to delete anything labeled "spam" with in the subject line. There are all sorts of settings.

While it does not give you 100% filtering, it has cut the amount I have to see in my in box by 75%.

What version of Windows are you running?

What you are describing sounds an awful lot like messenger spam.

If you use the Unsubscribe in ANY e-mail
All you are doing is Confirming that they have a good address
You will end up getting even More Spam

Just delete it and use a spam filter in your e-mail program

What Paul is saying by 'blind unsubscribe' is: If you are receiving an email from a site you don't want and especially if it's spam from anyone or site you don't know, if you unsubscribe, they will see that the random address they sent to is active and you will be put on a large database and in result will receive "more than you bargained for". TONS more...

Edit:
Rick, you beat me to it...

I know you don't want to hassle with more security programs, but I use Mailwasher (http://www.mailwasher.net/) and it really does help to control the trash emails...
