I have an HP OmniBook Laptop with Win 2000 pro. My laptop is freezing up and will eventually restart itself half the times. When it restarts if comes to the screen when you can enter the boot menu but right before it starts windows it comes to a black screen with it looks like a j and has a flashing _ under it. If I do a ctrl-alt-del it does the same thing. I have to turn it off and then turn it on.
When it doesn't restart by itself I have to hold the power button until it shuts down. The bottom of my laptop gets hot and my fan only works right at startup and then it doesn't work. This happens when I'm running on batteries and when I'm plugged in.
I have not installed any new hardware of software for a couple months. My guess is that its the power supply but I don't know. Can anyone help me out with trouble shooting this. Thanks.
