If you go to the front end of PCGuide and read the material there, you will find it is very easy for newbies to understand and also provides depth for geeks. Charles (who owns this whole thing) is working on a current revision so it will soon be updated with newer info as well. The forum is for people at any level as well.

Netcoder, the one thing that I like about pcguide.com is that you can ask any question and never fear that you will get a lame answer or that you will be made to feel stupid. I have to admit that sometimes a post will be a little over my head :p but all I have to do is let them know that the plane just landed and they will simplify it for you. These guys are the best and have done and probably seen everything there is to see about computers!:D

by the Welcome mat... to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif an' set a spel... This site is like 'un'sliced bread. You cut it the way you like it. You make it what you want it to be.
Granted it is NOT a college of any sort but you will find a TON of practical experience and in depth expertise as well. There is absolutely a wealth of knowledge here to tap into! http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/icons/icon14.gif
Ask what you need and someone most times will steer you in the right direction on any pc question. Your question can be interpreted in more than one way though. Are you looking for live, message board, news? Strictly education? Please elaborate more so we can understand your query better.
After you post a few times we teach you the Secret Handshake (http://users.raketnet.nl/riko/noah_rory2.jpg) too... :D

PCguide is good, indeed one of the best, but on of the things I like is that it is relativly small. IF you want mass appeal, ie lots of memebers try
Anandtech (http://anandtech.com/)
There is a lot of good info on that site, the forums are massive, but you need a very good BS filter.

Another large forum that you might try is WindowsBBS (http://www.windowsbbs.com/). It is a very large forum with thousands of members and good moderators.

You can try TechRepublic (http://www.techrepublic.com/index.jhtml). TechProGuild is really the best part. You can read entire books online. But you'll have to pay $10 monthly.

Hey netcoder, have you seen experts-exchange (http://www.experts-exchange.com/) ?

I would say Biteme's Kingdom (http://neb1211.zapto.org) but it doesn't have very many users so you probably wouldn't be interested in it since you are looking for the most popular site. Check it out if you feel like it.
