In the clip board.

Go to word or any other program hit edit and paste and you have your picture

I use Paint and save as a jpg....that makes a much smaller file than a raw bmp.

Quick tip: If you use [ALT] + [Print Screen], it will only copy the current window you're in rather than the entire screen. Just thought I'd share in case some of you didn't know.

Press Print screen > open paint > click Edit > click Paste

If your doing *Desktop* you'll want the whole screen:rolleyes:

Yoda, I was just throwing out an extra tip in case he was interested. I assumed it was relevant. I may have been wrong. Sorry, I'm a newbie ;)

Yep...The ol' tried and true methods work great!

But I'm just a sucker for toys, so I really like "Gadwins Print Screen" (http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/?prnscr) (And the options it gives you)

Nice little program that gives you a lot of bang for the buck.....(Free)
:D

How about the excellent, much-praised IrfanView. (www.irfanview.com) In addition to an image viewer, it will even play your music files with all the extra plug-ins. Yes it's also FREE.

Now if ONLY there were free programs for copying the WHOLE of a web page, and also for grabbing DOS screens.

Using yoda's method works fine now how do you put this on the web or e-mail? Is infranview the only way?
Thanks Mark:confused:

Depend what image editing software you have, Mark. For web use, you want a small file size, and JPG (compressed) format is the most universal. Jost save the picture, choosing your own title and file type JPG. Check the options tab for the amount of compression - it's a choice between quality and file size. In Paint shop Pro, I find a compression factor of 50 gives a reasonable result.

Hi David, forgive my stupidity on this matter, but once you get it into print, then what?

Mark: Am not totally clear on what you're asking, but say you have something on your Desktop you want to "show" someone. So, you click on PrintScreen key on keyboard, or Alt and Printscreen (as mentioned above) if you want just the window that's open. If you have another image program on your puter better than Paint, you can open that program and click on Paste, and voila..there's your screenshot. (With my PSP 6, I find the "Capture" feature in PSP works better than the Printscreen stuff and then I can do multiple screenshots if I am making a tutorial or something for someone.) In that image program or Paint, you can "edit" if needed (crop or whatever) and then you want to "save" as a jpg file, and then you can attach it to email or display on a web page. Since jpgs tend to look "larger" on the monitor than they actually are in print, I tend to make my jpgs smaller (4 to 5 inches) and use less compression in my PSP..usually about 10 gets me a nice jpg under about 60K. But, if you do want it to print much bigger, or be used as a Desktop pic, then you'll want to leave it bigger..say 800x600.

One word on that. Long ago, we "discovered" here that Paint does NOT have the option to save as a jpg unless a word processor program has added to the basic windows setup. I just checked..and I do not have the option to save as a jpg in my Paint because I only use an old 95 Works program..and running 98SE.

There are also six different image formats to choose from, and each one can be resized. With all the customization capabilities, what more could you ask for?

HeHe- Sorry folks, just had to get my little plug in once more for Gadwins print screen. :D (Link above)

It's really a simple little program that allows you to send the shots to specific folders, email, web etc.
Worth checking out IMHO. ;)

As mike2002 and others have mentioned in the past, irfanview is also really cool, but with tons more options. (I tend to like my "simple little program" for this particular task.)

There, I'm out of here for the day so I won't bug you guys anymore.
("Glad to hear that" you say.) :p

Thanks Kay, Jabar.
Both have answered my questions. Did not realize I could paste into my photo editing software, from there I know how to get on the net.
I promised myself that I am not loading any more small programs unless it really is going to something miraculous

I concur with the sentiment. Ever since I installed a program that prevented my PaintShopPro from initiating, and was told by the PSP tech that it wasn't uncommon for that sort of thing to happen...well, I have been very paranoid about installing anything unless I am absolutely convinced I "need" it.

We have a friend who installs things willy nilly. Two weeks ago, he and his friend wanted to play a particular game and couldn't get it to run in 98SE, so they installed ME. I still can't believe that..even considering their past "computer record." The mind boggles.
