"Dodgy Discounts" is an organisation that imports and wholesales inexpensive ‘giftware’ and gadgets. The company currently has two PCs.
The first is a Pentium III running Windows 98, MYOB and Office 98.The secretary/receptionis uses this to maintain the companies books, and prepare correspondence. The second is a similar machine that the manager uses to connect to the internet using a 56k modem via a dialup account with SmallPuddle®.The manager uses this system to seek out suppliers.
The manager has asked you to design a suitable network solution for their business. He has obtained (from a discount supplier in Korea) a software application that will enable the company to manage and market their stock. The software requires a full time connection to the internet, and network access by all sales and warehouse staff. The software will run under Windows 98 or later.
The new network will link the reception, office and warehouse areas. The use of the internet and e-mail access will be required by all users.Among other features, the new software will enable Dodgy Discounts to set up an e-commerce site whereby retailers will be able to make inquiries and place orders. The company will be able to organise some of its purchases over the Internet. The company is intending to use the Internet provider SmallPuddle® for its ISP.
The company premises consist of a reception area, two offices, and a warehouse, all in the same building. The company consists of the Manager, Dan Dodgy, a Receptionist/secretary, four sales representatives, and two stores staff. It has been highly recommended for the company to use Windows 2000 as its network operating system platform.Any change from this direction would require thorough justification.
