I have windows 98 and noticed there are a lot of mostly empty folders in the c:\windows\temp folder. There is also a lot of files. About 90% of the files have the extention .ABI or .TMP.
Is if safe to delete everything in this temp folder? I'm assuming all this stuff is leftovers from programs that were installed. Is that correct?

The temp folder is used for a variety of temporary uses, installation being high on the list. It is safe and generally a good idea to clean that folder out periodically. I usually check files that seem to have something in them and look like they might be useful, but they are usually not...

Anything in that folder that was not created or has not been modified since you last booted up is safe to delete.
Here's (http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article05-008) a good link to some information about reducing clutter.
