how to connect 2 computers??

how can i connect a laptop, using win 98 and a pc, using win xp/pro, in order to get some files off of the laptop and place them on the pc. i'm pretty much of a novice.

You can:

1) Set up a network with a crossover cable and transfer files over the network.

2) Go out and buy Laplink and transfer via parallel or serail cable.

I would recomend using a crossover cat5 instead of a paralell.
If you are running XP on one and 98 o the other it should be pretty easy. You will need to plug your cat5 into both NICs and then start on the XP machine by running Network setup wizard and then going and runing the XP disk setup on the 98 box.
Once you start the proccess the wizard will make it pretty easy and guide you through it.
