A battalion of lawyer geeks is taking on spam, spyware, security screw-ups, incomprehensible software licenses, useless privacy policies and many other ills plaguing computer users. The charge is being led by New York state's Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.

Spitzer and the lawyers that staff the attorney general's Internet bureau think crime isn't any less prosecutable just because it happens online.

Thats Cool. I would consider a contribution to that defense fund. The whole idea that legitimate mass mail (and e-mail) marketing should be acceptable is insane. What an unbelievable waste of resources. I'm sure it very affordable and lucrative for the business advertising but undeniably wasteful.
Every day I get some kind of mailer in my snail mail. It goes directly to the recycle bin. It is probably ground up, pressed out, then reprinted into another mailer.
I really don't know how I have kept off the spam lists, but I rarely get any. Still , I am aware of the volume of this crud and what a waste it is.

Hopefuly this will send a message to the businesses that use these services and possibly slow down the volume.

I don't get much junk mail anymore, but I use a neat little trick when I get one with a prepaid envelope. I put the ad materials in the envelope, minus any information identifying me, and mail it to them. It adds a little more cost to the bulk mail campaign and my hope is that if enough people do it, it will become too expensive for them to SPAM the world with paper.

I am also delighted that the SPAMmers are being targeted...
