This might be a video card problem, however I dont know.

I seem to crash to desktop in every game that I play. Most of them crash to desktop without warning or crash messages. However the game everquest crashes with the invalid page fault error.

On top of that, all my browsers crash with invalid page faults, and just about anything. I've even had GetRight download program crash and I didnt even have it open or running.. Virus? I downloaded AGP, and ran a full scan. No luck.

Here is a log of errors I've gotten. i dont have all the exact numbers etc. But I can get the error messages back and get that info pretty easy.

EQGAME caused an invalid page fault in module EQGAME.EXE at 0167:00501884

Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module USER.EXE at 001e:0000ladd

IExplore caused an invalid page fault in module MSHTML.DLL at 0167:7ad5eca9

Netscape caused an invalid page fault in module MFC42.DLL at 0167:5F4012be

NETSCAPE caused an invalid page fault in module JPEG3240.DLL at 0167:60246602

Here is also some system info that might be helful.

Welcome to the PC Guide Wazeek http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

IPF's are usually a sign of bad memory either RAM or Virtual Memory. I recently had a problem with several IPFs from diff applications. I pulled the suspected RAM module and the errors ceased. If you have TweakUI installed there is an option on the Paranoia tab at the bottom under Illegal Operations that will tell the system to log application errors to FAULTLOG.TXT. I've found that to be an incredible tool to track errors...it gives the address and time/date. This is how I knew which memory module that was the likely culprit. If you don't have TweakUI you can find the latest version here. (http://www.pcforrest.freeserve.co.uk/tweakui.htm)

If removing the RAM modules don't help post back and we can discuss options to "renew" your swap file and evaluate the virtual memory. I hope this offers some assistance http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Actually you both are correct. As Bassvax noted, memory is usually the cause of most errors of this type, but video drivers can cause their share as well. Other things can cause them too, but memory is most common, and with the assortment of different errors listed here, I would suspect memory first.

Bud Allen (http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Troy/6883/errors2.html) has a good list of related error messages and fixes.
tech advice (http://www.techadvice.com/w98/E/Exception_errors.htm)
Windows Trouble (http://windowstrouble.com/fatal.shtml)

Those are just a couple of the links I found when I was trying to figure out a similar problem on this machine. Different memory AND video card finally fixed it. The older video card was part of the problem, and none of the drivers I could find would stop it. Once both were replaced, it runs fine now.

Ill install that program thanks, and track my errors for a good number of crashes.

I sure do hope it is the RAM module problem. The problems started a while ago, but have gotten worse and worse. I started out with 64MB chip, and added a 128 chip. So hopefully the only thing wrong is that 64 module.

But as you saw, my video card is very very old. Voodoo banshee is what? 3 years old? I do have th latest drivers I believe.

As for now, Ill look into both and post what i find/if it works. Thanks guys.

Forgive the newbie question... but how do I pull out a RAM module out of all those error messages?

Sometimes we are just lucky I guess....I used the date to show me when the error messages started and I found they started when I added the extra 64MB back in Jan. In your case...look for the date and and then try to remember when you installed your extra RAM and in which bank you installed it. If that's not feasible...just pull all of the sticks and put one in at a time and run the machine through a few programs for a while then check the log...If no errors add the next stick and so on...

Found out I had a 128RAM, and two 32's. Went ahead and took out both 32's since I was positive it wasnt the 128. Been running all day, no crashes. Looks like that was it. Dont know which of the 2 is fried though, but I figure I'll go buy some more sticks, since they are way cheap these days.

Thanks for all the help

Actually I had the same problem when I installed my voodoo. However, after i upgraded my ram I didnt have any problems (i had 64mb at the time). I installed a 256mb BUT i combined it with my old 64mb I never had a problem since plus I stilla made use of the old one since it seemed to be working just fine.
