Hi all, I wanted to say that I did not make this poll to make fun or denounce the tomshardware review site as a bad site. However I do think that Tom's site are bias against certain companies when they write their reviews. I just wanted to see everyone else's opinions that's all.:)

Generally I assume if a reviewer is taking advertising money from the companies they are reviewing, then they are biased even if they struggle not to. That said, it seems to me that Tom's Hardware does okay in dealing with this. The only organization that I know of that avoids this bias is Consumer Reports, but they try to review too many products and their tech reviews are not all that helpful. The lag time on their reviews is also long and tech moves fast.

Hi,

I guess it depends on what you mean by biased ...

I have been reading articles at THG for a few years, and I while think that their reviews and articles often reflect the opinion of the authors, they usually do a good job of supporting their opinions with facts and don't really engage in unfair and one-sided coverage that I generally associate with bias.

A good example would be in their analysis of Intel/AMD systems. It's clear (to me, anyway) that THG 'roots' for AMD to do well and produce quality products to rival Intel, but I think that their coverage is quite reasonable and when they compare/review products and platforms from the two companies, they evaluate them in a fair manner and report the results accordingly.

So as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't really seem to be bias when THG lets their opinions be known, as long as they present all of the relevant data and don't 'slant' the interpretation of said data.

John

Tom's Hardware backs up their position (whatever position they take) with solid arguments and sound reasoning.

If you make a poorly designed product, they will be "biased" against you. If you make a well-designed product, they will be "biased" in your favor.

I've seen them have favorites before, and I've seen them change favorites when the product they liked changed in a bad way or when a new product came out that was superior.

That being said, they're human, and they're going to have subjective opinions. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. They know what they're talking about, and I trust them.

BB66: I smell a little sarcasm...

I've seen THG take aim at Intel and AMD alike. I've seen them take aim at various motherboard manufacturers that they had previously praised.

Am I naive? I'm not not too big to say, "Oops, I was wrong." Just show me.
