latest version of html?

I want to create a new website,
I have created one using web development tool (i.e Dreamweaver)
and some of my own code using html 3.

I want to create a new website this time not using any web dev tools,

I want to know what is the latest version of html?
I have started using html 4, and have realised that some tag from html 3 have been deprecated.

AFAIK, Version 4 is the latest, but you can check exactly what the current state is at the W3C websiteW3C.org (http://www.w3.org/) . What are you using to write your HTML?
