Boot problems in Win2K

I am getting the following message during boot-up on a Win2K Pro machine:
"a disk read error occurred".
After many ctrl+alt+del the pc will then boot, apparently normally.
Does this sound like boot sector error, a possible virus, or a physical problem with the disk?

tbalazs: we would appreciate it if you would not post the same question twice. in time some one with more back ground in this will get to your question pls.And read your other post and maybe some more specs on your system and what you were doing might help a little.
