I have 4 ATX cases sitting in the basement doing nothing right now. These are old systems that have worn out their current usefullness. After all these years, I decided to consider, maybe, building my own system using one of these cases. Replace the guts entirely, (including power supply), except power swithes, floppy drive, zip drive, TR-5 Tape backup, and CD-ROM.
Many articles are written, advising how to assemble a system. That will make life easier. The big question, when considering what to purchase, is whether I should buy the retail version of all the components, or the OEM version? I realize the OEM will not come with a fancy box or usually any instructions, but hopefully the articles will cover that ground. Also the co. websites often offer online manuals. Will the OEM versions come with the cables and CD's where needed. If not, the purchase of additional cables can counter any savings you may gain.
Any help that anyone has encountered would come in real handy. Especially now, before I put in my orders. Thanx:confused:

Hi driseberg, and welcome to the forums at http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif.

This question came up not too long ago here (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22761). Check out saphalline's posts in particular.

thanks Pentachris
Thats what I get for staying away from the forums for 6 months. I can probably get most of my questions answered, if I just look over the archives and get caught up. Thanx.
