You can either try booting from the CD and letting it automatically start setup (does not work on all machines) or put the startup disk in and select "with CD support" and then put the CD in the drive, switch to the CD drive (you'll have to watch the boot up screens to find which letter was used for the drive)and then type setup at the prompt...

I have used windows startup disk aid.
Then choose option 1 "with cd support"

Then it goes through the motions.
It has the same colourful Windows startup interface.

Then afetr a few minutes a message occurs:

message SU995035
An invalid command option was specified...

check command line and try again ot type setup /?

for help on setup command option
(Ox13ab)

<ok>

Not I had not pressed any commands whilst it was going through the motion of installing.

When I click on <ok>
takes me to A: prompt.
if I type setup/?
it gives alot of commands that have no meaning to me like sys... and autoex...

Please help!!!!!!

Please could any one tell me what needs to be done?
As I cannot decipher the message regarding SU995035.

I am absolutly clueless why this should happen.

Hi, let's see if i can walk you thru this; 1-make sure you set up a primary partition, and formatted it 2-when you boot up choose option (2), start with CD rom support 3-put in your W98 CD and type at the prompt D:setup.exe 4-this should start the installation from your CD, just follow the propmts aftewards.

Q258671 (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q258/6/71.ASP) might have some useful info. If it were me I would reformat and start over. That's the best thing I've found to avoid further problems if I run across problems during a windows installation. Sometimes it will work perfect the next time, on occasion it's still no go...but not often...

You may also want to reread the CD you have and make sure it isn't just an update disk.

Regarding iisbob

My cd rom is on drive f:
when I go to f dive
and type from propmt.
f:\>setup.exe

It returns with bad command or file name.

However when I try a search on another computer on the CD
*.exe it clearly shows this file/program on the cd.
