View Full Version : Explore disapeared
Something weird happened. If I right click on the start button I use to get the options of Explore and Open but now they are grayed out....and I can't click on them. I'm not sure when this actually started but when I tried to go to explore today I noticed it. I know how to get around it, but just wondered if anyone knew how and why this happened, and how can it be fixed. I have rebooted, ran scan disk, defrag, sfc and still they are grayed out.

have you looked thru your task bar and start up menu and see what you have got checked in the boxes?
If I click on the start menu it brings up a folder named programs.....in that folder among a lot of other things there is a shortcut for windows explore. I'm not sure what you mean my checking if anything is checked in the task bar...sorry I'm not to good at this stuff.

I understand that completely go to Start>Settings>. when your at settings a box will show up there should be four items there-Control panel
Dial up networking
Printers
Task bar & Start menu
Click on the task bar-start menu
a page will pop up you will notice that there are two sections General and advanced___make sure in the general there is NO check in auto hide or small icons if you change these make sure you click apply.
Now you can go to the advanced section and check or de-check any thing you would like always remember to click apply afterwards.
If this does not help post back and will figure out something different.
Thanks for explaining that to me YODA. The only things that had checks in them were "Always on top" and "show clock". So I'm still at a lost.

I have no idea why you have this disabled?
Try this as a work around
start
programs
windows explorer
Navigate to
if you have multiple profiles
c:\windows\profiles\Username\Start Menu
if not
c:\windows\Start Menu
BTW, Do you have tweak UI installed?
I just installed tweak UI a few days ago.....are you thinkin that this caused the problem ?
thanks for all the help,
Mil
Not the installation itself, but I believe that TweakUI has some security settings (it has been so long since I used it I'm not 100% sure) that will allow you to disable certain functions and I believe Explore is one of them...so run through the options available especially in the Paranoid tab....

lol...the "paranoid" tab, huh? Sounds like an interesting program.
Well I still can't seem to enable "explore" or the "open". The only thing that I did after installing Tweak UI was adjusting the scroll wheel on my mouse. Any other ideas? Thanks for all the help.

Hi Mil, This will fix it!
Start Tweak UI and click the My Computer Tab, Select all the drives by placing a tick in all the boxes. Click apply and this will restore your right click Open or Explore on the Start button.
