:confused:
Hi,
I want to buy a scanner like canon LIDE 20 30 or 50.
Anyone has facts on the [COLOR=red]scanning time[/COLOR of 1 sheet A4 in the highiest resolution on these 3 scanners of Canon
================================================== =====================
resolution time to scan 1 A4 page
CANON LIDE 20 600 * 1200 .......seconds
CANON LIDE 30 1200 * 1200 .......seconds
CANON LIDE 50 1200 * 2400 .......seconds

Tnx a lot :confused::cool:

I could be wrong, but think that's impossible to answer because it depends on what kind of scanner..parallel or USB..and depends on how much RAM you have, and processor speed, and who knows what else. So each puter would be slightly different on time. We have a friend who insists on scanning at really high resolutions (even though it's unneccessary and unproductive to go as high as he does), and with his puter and a USB connection, one of his scans can take up to 25 minutes.

Hey,
I want to buy an USB 2.0. scanner...
those 25 minutes seems a lot, for lets say a scan of 1200 * 1600 in 48 bits:
i guess the file is at maximum 15 MBytes (or even let it be 30 MBytes)
comparing this ridiculous amount of bytes (15 Mb) with the processing speed actual games can play, and superfast FSB and wathever you want, something is not straightforward to me
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++
My system is an ordinary P4 1,7 GHz 512 MB ram
Mobo Abit BG7, intel 845, etc
++++++++++++
++++ just installed USB 2.0. ++++
++++++++++++
They claim to reach a speed transmission of 300 à 400 MB / second,
(if I am not wrong)
this would mean I can transmit that amount of scan in a fraction of a second <=> a high resolution scan takes minutes???
so from where does the discrepancy come from ?? in differences of time necessary of transmitting data?
AND
I am still interested of the scanning times with the configuration of my pc stated above.
any ideas???
Tnx a lot

Well, 25 minutes seems a bit long. I have an HP5400c scanner, and a full A4 page, in 24 bit colour, and at 2400 DPI takes about 4 minutes to scan and load into paint shop pro. A full A4 page in greyscale at 300 DPI takes less than 30 seconds. I have never used 2400 DPI except to check the scanning time, as 300 is enough for almost anything. File sizes get too big too quickly! The Canon scanners are probably about the same speed. The limit is the mechanical part of the scanner, not the data bandwidth, I think.
