I hope someone can help with my problem.
I have Bluegear wireless bluetooth dongles by Amazingtech.
I have had them installed and working on 2 computers. The server one is running win98 and the client is a laptop running win2000. The laptop has never been a problem. My problem is with the 98 machine. When the software is installed it does something to the registry that really delays shutdown. Sometimes it won't shutdown at all and/or eventually restarts after about 3 minutes. I have had to do a clean install of the entire system twice just to get the registry back in working order. I have an internal 3com adsl pci modem and an onboard nic by realtec. I realize that there is a conflict somewhere but I really can't figure it out.
Has anyone else experienced this problem that can suggest a solution ?
I have downloaded updated drivers for the bluegear and used them the last time. I lost access to most all of the system and it would only boot up in safe mode with very limited access to any basic diagnostics. By very limited access, I mean that I couldn't even start any programs to begin diagnosing or restoring the registry. If there had been a good registry to restore to, I couldn't have.
That leads to my second question. Is there any way of creating a boot disk now that will also save my current registry settings and reinstall them if I have to boot from a rescue disk?

I also have Zonealarm installed which has to be setup right for the wireless units to work properly. Could it be creating some of my problems? I did try them with Zonealarm disabled and it did not seem to change anything so I don't think it is a part of the problem.

I'd sure appreciate some help with this problem.

Is the onboard NIC used for anything...if not is it disabled in BIOS?

Also is anything showin up as conflicting in Device Manager?

What all is running from start up?

Download and run
Startup List (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/) and post the log.

Thanks for the reply MJC,

The onboard nic is not presently being used for anything. I had it disabled thru control panel the last time I tried the bluetooth.
There are no conflicting devices nor was there when bluetooth was installed.
I tried to install your suggested startup list program but a required dll file was missing so it wouldn't load.

Am I right in presuming that it should be a problem with a networking component or could it be with any other program ?
What I would like to do is make a ghost image of the registry before I reinstall the bluetooth software and compare it to the new registry. Is it possible with Norton Ghost - I should be able to do a compare in DOS shouldn't I ? This will also let me easily restore things afterwards when it doesn't work. I plan on doing a ghost image of the entire hard drive before I install any more software anyhow as things are working very good right now.
FYI, when I was having the problem before, I tried shutting down the wireless network prior to shutting down the computer. This did not make any difference with the computer not shutting down.
