I recently checked out a computer for a friend of mine, who thinks her computer got hit by lightning, since it was under warranty she took it in and the replaced the mobo and power supply. HP Pavilon 11gb hd, pII800, 96mb ram, onboard video. The Problem is it wouldn't boot, when it came up it just showed a blue HP screen and then the system seemed to go in standby, I brought the tower home to check it out and when i plugged it in and turned it on it gave me the setup screen, I just hit default setting, and it booted up normally, I went online, downloaded, defragged, scandisked, just like it was my computer no problems. So I take it back and the same thing happens as originally, just a blue HP screen. we tried another monitor she had and same thing.could the monitors possibly been hit by lightning, because it worked fine, no problems on mine. but two monitors at one time seems a little wierd. they replaced it with a hp mobo by asus. But I'm baffled, any help?

Sure sounds to me like her monitor also got fried, take your monitor over and try it while at her place-also check to see if she's got it plugged into a powerstrip that needs to be reset. If it also works fine at her place i'd say; NEW MONITOR time!

I just tried those two monitors and the 15 inch works with its own computer system but not the HP, could there be something in bios that puts a HP monitor on standby, because it is stuck on standby, but the only way you can change it it by the buttons on the monitor?
