Hi there,
I'm somewhat of a nostalgic gamer and I like to pull the classics out of the closet from time to time. This is why I run a dual boot system with both Win98 and WinXP (win98 for the older games that can't live without their good old Dos like Doom, Heretic, Tie Fighter,...)
Anyway, the questions is: is there a possibility to run these dos-needing games within an xp enviroment? Maybe in some kind of dos-simulator or something? I'd really like to get rid of the dual boot 'cause it eats op hdd-space and needs its own partition, not to mention the cr*p you have when doing a format.
Any suggestions much appreciated!

Yes, WinXP has a built-in compatibility mode for running older apps. Don't know myself how well it works, but you can right-click any .exe file and go to Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and there's all your options for running older apps! From 256-color mode to Win95 mode, it's all there. Whether or not it works is, I guess, for you to try, but the future is looking hopeful for your over-taxed hard drive! :p

Abbadon,
The most common problem I come across when trying to run DOS games on XP is conventional memory issues, then when you do get the game to run, it runs waaaaay too fast!
I was going to write some excellent tips on how to solve these issues, but these links should tell you everything you'll ever need. Honestly!

AMAZING site which has thousands and thousands of old DOS games (abandonware!) available for download

Guide on DOS gaming in XP from the same site as above (VERY good) - Also has links to any emulation programs you may need (I use DOSbox and sometimes VDMSound)

None of this should take you long to get going, so don't delay!
Games I am playing at the moment:
DOS - Master of Magic (Think Civ but fantasy)
DOS - Buck Rogers: Escape from Doomsday
DOS - Shattered Lands: Dark Sun
DOS - Mega-Lo-Mania
Oh, and GTA: Vice City :D
Take it easy!
Dave!!!!!
