I just recently bought a athlon 1.33 266 FSB,DDR BiostarMVIb.And I have a volcano heatsink 5200RPM, no case fans though.I bought it from TCWO and they recommended this cooler master and i bought it and it would not cut the job so i put a better heatsink on it, but i get the same temps.64C idling and about 67-70c loading data and stuff. Also i know the thermal grease is on properly, artic silver. Is this normal temps for a 1.33, or is this over? Its really making me mad cause i dont wont to send it back. Also im not overclocking it or nothing, everything is on defaults.

I would say those temps are high . I have the same CPU with a taisol heatsink and fan and it runs at about 35C at idle and gets to about 47C under load . Try running your machine with the side cover off for a couple of hours and see how hot the CPU core gets . You could also try reversing the fan on the heatsink so that it blows air down onto the core . I think you definately need to have at least two case fans , one sucking in cool air at the front and one blowing the hot air out the back .

That would not blow the processer? reversing the heatsink fan? Have you done it before and did the temps drop?

diurnal... If those readings are true temps, things are way too hot. Has any of your Apps tried to freeze up? Are these readings coming from a Mboard probe? If so, the probe will be located in the center of the CPU Zif Socket. A guy always needs to gently upright that probe a little to make sure it makes contact w/the CPU. Otherwise the reading will be of air temp below the processor.
Need to get down in the mid 40's where things are safe. Biostar may have an issue with totally inaccurate readings.
The Volcano isn't enough to handle the 1.3 for sure. Coolermasters will work, but there are better units available. As for air flow and air travel... it's got to blow down on the heatsink to be effective.
Also, run the latest BIOS available. Especially for a 1.3gig or 1.4gig PC.
Luck.

Looked at the probe , usually probes are paper like. But this one was like a bulb, first one ive seen like this. The probe was kind of down so i move it more upright and temps dropped about 5 degrees. Now its 59-60c idling and about 65c load.I look on the biostar website and it said noises could effect the probes temps. But it said nothing about any overheating issues.I had a coolermaster but same temps, but like you said there are better units out there, i guess ill have to buy a better heatsink, how bout a sk-6 thermalright with black label. But its funny that applications are running fine and no lockups. You know if it was overheating , you think things would be unstable. But the stablity is excellent, im really thinkin that this probe is not the best probe around but i could be wrong.

I agree here. I have one intake fan and two exhaust fans (not counting the PS fan), just to keep my Thunderbird 850 (not overclocked) at reasonable temperatures.
