Hello All!

First time here, I hope that I will be able to contribute something.

My question is what DDR speed should I get. I remember when I bought my first 256MB that the guy helping me said that a certain speed was all that I need. Anything faster would go to waste on my system.

I have an AMD 1800, with at Albatron KT400-8x board. I really don't feel like opening my system up or looking through tons of receipts.

Is there any software that will help to dignose the memory speed?

Thanks,

Jason

You can probably see what RAM you have by looking in Device Manager or in System Info. You could also download and run either Aida32 (http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php) or Belarc, (http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html) which will give you more info than you know what to do with....

The web site for your motherboard may also tell you what options to use...

Ive just run your mobo make/model though Crucial and it came back with this link (http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.asp?Mfr%2BProductline=Albatron%2B&mfr=Albatron&cat=RAM&model=KX400-8X&submit=Go), all will work on your mobo, hope it helps.

My best guess would be that the guy helping you before told you to buy PC2100 (266mhz) because the FSB of your processor is also 266 and you are probably running the memory and cpu buses in sync.
Go into the bios and you should be able to find how fast your memory is running.
