Need some help my computer will not stay on. I power it up and it will stay on for about 10 mins and then it just shuts down completly. I turn the power supply off for a few minutes then turn it back on and power up the computer it stays on for a few then completly shuts down again. I have tried different wall sockets and a new power supply. I do notice if I run the computer with the case panel off that it runs alot longer. I cannot figure this out..it is a new built from scratch computer
If it runs longer with the case side cover off
That is a good sign you have a heat related problem
Check you temperatures
Check your fans
Check your Bios settings for system monitoring
Are you absolutely positive the CPU heat sink is seated correctly ?
What did you use between the CPU and the heat sink ?

It sounds like heat to me as well. You can test it by running a small desk fan blowing into the open case and see if that allows it to keep running. However, if you don't have a thermal compound properly applied between the heatsink and CPU, don't even turn it on until you get that resolved... you can burn up your CPU.
When you post back, please provide more info about your system and what components you put in it, especially the heatsink/fan for the CPU and the thermal compound you used.

You can try turning off all programs running in the background before you try to shut down.
Hit Ctrl, Alt, Del once . If you're running a 9X flavor of Windows, the Close Program dialog box will open up. Highlight everything except Explorer and Systray and choose End Task. On an NT based Windows OS, after hitting Ctrl,Alt,Del once, you will be presented with a dialog box that's called Windows Security. There will be six different tabs to choose from. Click on Task Manager. Then click on the Applications tab. Highlight anything that's there and choose to End Task.
Once that's all done, try shutting the system down as you normally would.
