Before few days, there was some lightining , pc was left on and i was in other room. i heard a huge bolt of lightning and then when i checked the pc, it was freezed.

ok... i restarted the pc and found tht Lan card was acting weird. i ran some diganostic tests with the software supplied with card (realtek). it said EEPROM has blown off. :(

but thts not the end of it. now whenever i start my pc, it starts up right, but after a minute or so it restarts

i think, the power supply has gone kaput. i have not yet removed tht lan card which blew off. ... as my exams are on. xams are finishin on 10th.. but i want to fix it as fast as possible. hence the query.

i gtg now... am in hurry. .... I HATE EXAMS

you may leave your replies ... i will be able to reply to any posts only after 10th.

bye., am missing you all.

P.S. if anyone of you has any kind of clothes tht make one inivisible kindly lend it to me for a day... i wanna hit the person who set math paper.... :p ;)

Sorry to hear of the problems Rahul! :(

You definitely did not need this while trying to prepare for exams...

It sounds like you might have multiple problems going on with your system...if the surge made it through your power supply and "blew" something on one of you PCI cards...I'd have to agree that you might be needing to go shopping for a new Power Supply...

It would be nice if you could swap one out...but there's no telling even with a new PSU if your RAM didn't get affected or any other cards or even your Motherboard...

Sorry not to be the bearer of glad tidings...:(

It might be time to start anew...

I would start by removing the LAN card and see how things function. If you still have problems, it could be the PS, but it could be any number of other things as well. A lightening generated power surge can destroy a system completely so you are fortunate that anything is working, but you will have a lot of problem solving to do to figure out what is still ok, what is semi-fried and what is lost. Make sure you check the capacitors on the board to see if they are leaking, bulging or burst....

exams are over....was outta town. hence the late reply.

update....
i removed all cards and turned on the pc with just ram , processor , motheboard (oboard video and sound) and keybrd. same results. pc would restart after a minute or so. tried booting in dos . same behaviour. regarding the cmos battery, i m 100% sure, its ok.

in my last unsuccessful boot in dos, the screen flickered, half the characters vanished off the screen and pc hanged.

i think either my ram / motherboard / powersuply has gone kaput.

wat do you guys think ?

I would try another power supply if you have one handy.... pray that that is the problem since other issues could be much worse...
