I purchased a puter trhough Ebay the seller said that the machine was tested and was operable prior to shipping.

Once this computer came to its new home it would not boot there is no DOS prompt and the screen flickers clan then green. This system was shipped via mail is it possible for 2 hard drives to be damaged in transit? Or is this a mother board problem? IS there no os?

My parents are computer novices is there anything I can do with them via the phone to eliminate what the problem could be?

Specifications of computer as follows:-
24Mb of EDO-ram. 2 Seagate Harddisks -> 1.2Gb + 500Mb. 8x Creative CD-Rom Drive, Video Card, Sound Card. Internal Modem. of coz, the Genuine Intel Pentium Chip with heatsink. Pentium Mainboard. Powerpack. 1.44 Panasonic Floppy Drive. Special server casing with Swing-style front panel cover to protect your computer accessories from dust.

Welcome Sandramd!!

I need a little more information.

1) Do the lights light up on the front of the system?

2) Does the fan in the back run?

3)Do you see anything on the screen.

4) Does the computer make any beeps or combinations of beeps when attemptiing to boot?

Answers to these questions would be helpfull.
Please post back

Sandramd...Have you tried using a boot disk yet? Were you suppose to get a O/S with the pc?

Because the pc was shipped via snailmail, there could've been a hard drive crash if the pc received a good jolt during shipping. At this stage it's hard to say what the deal is without cracking the case and looking for anything that might be loose (cards/cables/ram etc). By looking at the specs of the pc I'll assume you didn't pay a whole lot for it so a quick run through by a tech might be in order if no other means is viable at the moment.

Another option is to send it back to the sellor (does Ebay have rules about this?) and get the money back.

Good luck and keep us informed

Have they opened up the case? I just received a machine in the mail and the heatsink and fan had fallen off the CPU. The CPU fried itself pretty quickly. My machine showed the same symptoms (hard drive starts to read on boot and case fan runs, but not much else). Once the case is opened this is a very obvious thing to spot.

Good luck.
