As if getting spammed isn't bad enough, now you have to worry about getting scammed.

THE STORY (http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,111499,00.asp)

Just a heads up...

Thanks Steve...Amazing.
I've been a Paypal user since long before eBay bought them out. Never had any problems, although I've heard many people have in the past.

Anyway, It would be tough to get me to fall for a scam like that....I would never reply to an email asking for personal information, but Rather log on directly to their secure site with my password and see what's up. (Secure being the key word here.."SSL Secured (128 Bit)"

Hehe..I've actually seen little "Padlocks" that were so phony, they look like a 3 year old painted them on your screen.
Even official Paypal emails tell you that they will never ask for personal information through an email.
Never the less, we must always be on the look out! If one isn't careful on the WWW, they may certainly "Pay Pal"...Big time. :p

As it said in the article, PapPal has been the subject of a number of scams like this in the past and I have learned to be very suspicious about any email telling me about updates or whatever. I recently had an email from MailWasher annoucing their latest update, but I went to the site to get it rather than using the link because I didn't want to risk getting scammed....:(

The cloaking of the eMail redirection within an HTML form submission is a very sneaky development.

It seems that eMails in HTML format should be treated with ever increasing suspicion, whether spamming, viruses or scams are involved.

So much can be "hidden", or otherwise obfuscated, in html that even though much prettiness and functionalily may be lost, there is a lot to be said for just having the transparency of text messages.

Email in HTML format should simply not be accepted -- or at least, not rendered.

And BTW, MailWasher has been involved lately in a little venture that is somewhat less than desireable from a privacy perspective.
