Hi,
I have bought a barebone kit from microland and it has been put together by qualified IT technicians. I have brought it home tonight and tried to install my OS. I have Windows 2000 pro edition.
It comes up Boot from CD ROM ok
and then
Cannot find NTLR or something close to that.
What can i do. i cannot do anything without the os installed.

It's not obvious from your post at what stage you get this message. If the first part of the installation (new installation) went OK and this occured after rebooting, I would go along with the repair installation having first booted from the CDROM again. Choose new installation again and then choose to repair the corrupt installation.

"cannot find NTLDR" means your computer is trying to boot from something that doesn't have a good boot.ini file on it. Make sure your cdrom is your first boot device if you've not alredy started an install, and make sure you have no floppies in the drive, and your 2kpro CD is in the drive.

... there is another basic reason and that is when the mbr is not pointing to the correct partition on which the boot loaders (boot.ini, ntldr, etc) are waiting for action!
Wiping-out the mbr and partition info can fix such a scenario.
Running fixboot and fixmbr from the command prompt of the recovery console can also correct such problems - assuming you can boot first to the installation cd.
