I appoligize in advance for the length of this question.. I just do not want to leave anything important out. I finished building my new computer yesterday. It will not boot, the best i can do is get a no signal input message from the monitor. The components i am using are a IWILL KA266 mobo, A Gladiac 920 (GeForce 3) AGP video card, 2 256 PC2100 memory moduels, and a 1.4 Ghz K7 Proc with 266 MHz fsb. when i first tried to boot heard a repeated series of long beeps. They were all the same and continued indefinately ( I turned it off at about twenty). I spent awhile trouble shooting- disconnected IDE cables and floppy, reseated memory and vid card. switched out the moduels one at a time. returned many jumper settings back to their default. still would not boot. I finally removed the Dragon Orb three cooling fan and looked at the processor. Some artic silver had gotten on the ceramic part of the chip and apparently bridged some of the metal contacts( the ones on the top- ive forgotten what they are called). As per instructions on Articsilver.com i used a cotton swab and dishwashing fluid to gently remove the excess silver. I used alchohol to wipe down the area and then let it dry properly. I put more artic silver on- more carefully this time and then replaced the hsf. the machine posted one beep at start up, but the bios did not appear on the monitor. at around this time i noticed a burning electronic smell and shut down immediately. after being assured that the smell was just the heatsink compound i resumed trying to troubleshoot- no luck. eventually a friend that has more experience with computers than i do changed some jumper settings- (not core voltage) and reseated some of the components once again. the machine would not boot and there was no longer a beep at startup. I switched out viedo cards still nothing. I am beginning to think that i fried the processor or something. any ideas on what to check- or what to do would be greatly appreciated, thanks
