View Full Version : Can't see printer on XP network.
Hello,
I have two XP machines hooked up in network via a hub. They can see each other in the workgroup, and they can ping each other. Computer B has a colorprinter set up locally, but for some odd reason computer A can not see that printer. Yes it is shared. The computers can't access nor see the shared folders either.
Anyone has any idea on how to solve this problem?

A.)I had same problem try this:
>Start
>Search
>Computers or People
>A computer on the network
>And type the computers name
B.)It should come up with the shared drives/folders and the printer hooked up to it. If not, on the computer with the printer hooked up go to:
>Control Panel
>Printers and other hardware
>Printers and Faxes
>Right click on the printer and select sharing then allow it to be shared.
Once thats done it should work. If you had to do step B then you may have to go back and repeat A.
Thanks!
That was so weird. I searched for comp A on comp B and nothing came up. Did a seach for comp B on comp A and it found the computer & printer. Got it installed, so I got access to the printer now. Aside from what you said I also disabled the Internet connection (ICS?) firewall.
Comp A can now access comp B, so the printer issue is solved, thank you very much, but for some reason comp B does not have access to the shared folder on comp A, nor can it see the other printer (local on comp A).
This is not a major issue, but it would be nice if I could find a way to resolve it.
More ideas?

Sometimes you can't gain access due to certain things set up for privacy/security/and other reasons. You should be able to go to the folder that you can't gain access to and right click on it, Sharing, and set it to share to all computers or turn off private... something along those lines.
And are you saying you have 2 printers?
