I have a problem with a power supply. When no connections are made to the m/b, h/d, etc., the p/s starts up and fan spins. When I connect the 2 connectors to m/b (it's an old 486), the fan does not run in p/s. You see it turn the fan just a bit...but that's all.

Sounds more like a motherboard short...can you try removing the motherboard from the case, making the connections and then trying to power up, if that isn't the problem then you may need to swap out the unit. Also are you making sure that the connectors are properly installed.

By connectors, I assume you mean the 2 power supply connectors...and by properly installed I assume you mean having the 2 black wires adjacent to one another when you connect them to the motherboard...

Ok...here's the scoop...took the m/b out of case...set it up on some cardboard to get insulation, attached the P8-P9 cables. Hit the power switch...got NOTHING at all. Disconnected the P8-P9 cables...hit the power switch...got power supply cranking up. I'm beginning to believe the m/b has gotten some sort of short in it. What do you think ???

I take your post to mean this is a 486 that has been running for awhile and now nothing... As opposed to one you are putting together.

Please don't shoot the messenger but the Mboard has expired. Gone to the Big PC in The Sky. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Okay...so it sounds like the jury is in and the m/b appears to have gone south. So that I can still accomplish what I intended to do...can someone tell me how to setup just a p/s, m/b, and power switch so that I can test some memory. I want to set this up without being in the case - so I can have easy access.
