recently i had a comp. store install xp pro sp1 on my comp. and when i go to "my comp." then click "properties" it says registered to user. is there somewhere i can replace that to say its regesitered to my name? i now when you first install windows it asks you for a name, the guy must of just entered "user" instead of my name. do i do it in the system regestry or something?

I think if you go to Control Panel and then click the user account icon, there might be a place to enter your name. I'm not 100% sure on that. You might get a better answer from one of the other members.

Start/Run/Regedit.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion.

In the right pane, double-click RegisteredOrganization. Under "Value data", type the name that you want, and then click OK.

To change the name of the registered owner, do the following: In the right pane, double-click RegisteredOwner. Under "Value data", type the name that you want, and then click OK/Exit.

I think if you go to Control Panel and then click the user account icon, there might be a place to enter your name. That's only the second time in my live I made a mistake. The other time was the time I thought I was wrong but I wasn't.:)

Man, I wish I was as error free in my life as you have been Frank.

In fact, you were not wrong, you can change your user name by doing what you suggested, but it won't change the name that Windows is registered to.

So, in reality, you have never actually been wrong in your life!!!

I'm duly impressed!:p

I'm duly impressed! Wow! So am I. Can't wait to tell my wife--but she'd never believe me.
