From what I have seen they both do the same thing. But when it come to updates it seems spybot has more current support.
I currently have both install on my system. (but I have only been running Spybot) Will I hose my system if I run both of them? Which is the better program? Or can both of them play nice?

I wouldn't run both at the same time, but I keep both up to date and run scans in both occasionally. I use SpyBot more because it has more stuff that I like to use in the extra tools it contains.
Well, if you had a dual 3GHz P4 you could possibly run them both at once...if you had a way of assinging one to each processor. The are both CPU intensive apps.
But that said, they are complimentary...with one filling in where the other may be lacking detections. About the only thing I would caution is LS support can be a bit fickle at times...both apps use forums for tech support (AdAwre pay versions gives you some email support).

I just wanted to know if both programs can be installed and not fight each other. (like if you install two anti vrius programs)

You can install both and they will be fine as long as you don't run them both at the same time. You can even install 2 antivirus programs and run both, as long as you don't run them at the same time. This would mean turning off all memory resident programs when you want to run the second one of course. You can run almost any 2 programs in the same computer as long as you don't run them at the same time....

I use both. Spybot was my favorite because it did its job much faster than Ad-Aware. However, Ad-Aware has a new version (Build 6.181) that is now much faster than Spybot.

Yep, MJC was talking about spyware in the Windows forum. I agree with the other fellas for what it's worth. Use both.

Yup ditto, use both, 1 will usually pick-up what the other misses. On the side notes, have spybot comes out with a new version yet?

Just to agree with what everyone else said...Yes, I use both.
And to comment on what Flick said, I generally used Spybot more often than Ad-aware because Ad-aware was so darn slow- That is until now!
Just downloaded Build 6.181 as Flick suggested and WOW ! What a difference! The thing flies now...Cool!! ;)
Oh, and Deagle- As far as Spybot, I believe v1.2 is still the latest and greatest. Just continue to "search for updates" and all is well.
Got to go now and run another Ad-aware scan...Nice! :p :D

Yes Spybot 1.2 is still the latest and greatest! ;)
Ad-Aware isn't bad either. But, word of caution to all who run both: make sure you reboot after removing stuff with either before running the other!! That way, if something goes haywire, you'll know which did what and have a lead as to what to do to correct the issue.
BTW, a new version is in the works.......no date as been set yet on its release. So keep on updating, you never know when it might come out.
Cheers,

I use both also.but find thay Spybot is much better and finds more of the bad stuff on my computer
Once you get your excludes set up right almost no false positives.
As everyone has said more updates also.
Mark:)

I must say, with this new build of Ad-aware (6.181), it's become my killer of choice. (I'll continue to run both)
As far as re-booting after removing stuff in-case something goes haywire, it's not something I worry about.
I have done so many scans with both programs, I can almost name every single piece of spy-garbage by name that will most likely come up, if any, depending on where I've been.
The names are so familiar to me, I don't even save quarantined items...They're gone as fast as you can say "Ad-aware-spybot". :D
I seldom find anything on my machine.....with either program.;)

Me neither..... wonder why?

Well, geesh- I didn't say I'm always loaded with the stuff.....that will most likely come up, if any
In fact, I rarely have anything either. It's just that I know a bunch of them by now from my many search and destroy missions....Both here and on "foreign soil"
But it's unavoidable to get something once in a while if you are the least bit adventurous isn't it? ;) :p
I run a scan almost every day with one or the other...Or both. MOST of the time, I'm clean. :D
(EDIT) Ha! I just saw the Team Spybot link magically appear Galadriel
Not to worry....I still love Spybot too. ;)
