Ok, I try to re-install Half-life and Opforce on my computer but I keep running into this particular error message"Setup casue an invalid page fault ... setup.exe 016f:00402400. I tried looking it up in google and the Microsoft knowledge base but there is no reference to the problem. Nothing as well on the sierra website. Any help is appreciated.

Did you change anything while you had the programs removed from your computer?
You might want to have a look here:

Since much of this involves RAM and virtual memory would you provide your system specs?

thanks for your reply. I did not really change anything on my computer except use the uninstall utility that came with them. The specs of my system is as follows:
P4 1.7 256 mg of RDRAM
40 gb deskstar HD
Prophet III Hercules w/ 64 Mb ram
Turtle Beach Sound Card
As you see, mine is an older system that I put together back in 2001. When I first installed the games(HL, Quake1-3 & Unreal), they all worked fine. I did had to uninstall them when I converted the computer to a "work-only" computer and to satisfy IRS requirements, the computer must be used 100% only for Business. Now that I am past that, (and eagerly anticipating HL2), I decided to play HL1 again.
Once again, thanks for the input.

I would run a full scandisk on the hard drive in safe mode, if I were you. It could be that a bad sector or two has cropped up and the game installed on it! Also, use the utilities for your hard drive (DL them from IBM's website) for good measure. If you do have bad sectors, the utilities will take them out of the partition for you.
Defragging might be a good idea also. Goes along with common HD maintainance.
Then you can try installing the latest drivers, making sure the drives are arranged properly, checking for DMA settings and hardware conflicts, etc.

It is possible that you have some copy protection software on your system that is blocking proper use of your disks. You might want to run Hijack This to see what is running in the background. You could also run Spybot and see what it says in the spyware area and in your startup files.
