good day and
have brought this subject to the guide forum recently and continue to face this dilemma: having run Norton disk utilities for yrs on this computer, suddenly one day i recv'd error when attempting to run Norton Disk Doctor, and then the same error on Norton Speed Disk. . . the error reads "unable to access c: for optimization as it is used by an application or is a different file type.". . . then i attempted to run windows Defrag, "error defragmenting c:; windows cannot defragment this drive as it has been locked by a disk utility. please exit any disk utility which may have locked the drive and retry." nor can i access my c: recycle bin (which is norton protected). . . my other hdd (partitioned into two) is accessible, though they are not boot and as important as my c, nor as subject to fragmentation. . .
this problem began around july 2. . . also, i tried to install norton system restore and received an error message that it could not be installed. . . now ive found a notebook file (setupxlg?) on c: reading various applications, which journaled from the beginning of the year (when i reinstalled my win98se) applications loaded or some such funciton; its functionability ended on july 2. . . this is what the notepad version reads, the final few days of the programs function:

i am sooo going mad with trying to figure this out. . . ive uninstalled axcrypt, spybot s&d, any other applications and am still unable to determine the problem's source. . . please, if anyone has any ideas, plzz help! i am new to the computer field and rather ignorant, but my desperation is a huge motivation to learn. . .

ps. also tried in ms-dos to run DEFRAG and NDD.EXE with no luck.
also ms-dos, C:/ UNLOCK, and received the message: LOCK FUNCTION FAILED. . . you can see how ive exhausted several fundamental options.
