Hey guys, I was just talking with my friends and we were talking about the new Intel Prescott core and the AMD Opteron. So I just thought why don't we have a debate over the 2 over here? So which one do you guys thinks its better? Give reasons to back it up too.

Well first they are two different types of chip, the opteron is designed more for servers, prescott is designed for desktops. In september (when prescott comes out) AMD will roll out "clawhammer" which is their first 64bit chip (as is prescott for intel). If trends continue as they have recently, clawhammer will run slightly faster and warmer, and will also be less expensive. The main advantage the clawhammer will have is the AMD is kicking the FSB and all data channels up very high (it can transfer 19.2 GB/s)

Hmm interesting, but I thought that the Intel's Prescott is not gonna be 64-bit. So the AMD's Clawhammer core will runs cooler than the Prescott? Can you confirm this with a link or something?
I thought that the newer AMD only advantage is that it does more instructions per cycle than the Intel?
:p

no the amd will likely run slightly warmer. However with all the money you will save because AMD's are cheaper, you can buy a kick*** cooling system
