Hey, has anyone ever had a motherboard that seemed to just quit allowing video cards to work? I've got a Tyan Trinity KT-A (KT-133A chipset)that I use as a test board. It's always worked fine until this morning. Now I get NO video output, no POST, nothing. I tried four different cards w/ same result (2 AGP, 1 PCI & 1 ISA). The monitor works with other systems. The board seems to power up (CPU fan comes on, so does power supply fan). Memory works in other systems and if I power-up the board w/ no memory it beeps. I do have a new power supply (300W), but it works fine on other boards and when using the old power supply I get the same no video output result. This board has no built-in video or audio and there are no add-in cards or drives connected. Just the video card. I should get some type of POST output or something. What gives?? Any suggestions??

I can fix that, but I'm gonna need some duct tape, an old car battery and a butter knife.

Perhaps your test mobo has suffered some kind of soft failure, that is to say ESD has blown a pinhole in one of the intergrated circuts buried somewhere in the board and over time the damage became to great and killed the board. This would explain the , "board worked yesterday and doesn't work today" dilemma. This soft failure wouldn't really affect the power supply and perhaps further the cpu fan.

stay tuned, perhaps some of the other capable tech people here and lend some further insight.

good luck

Thanks Steveo, er, double thanks actually. I suppose ESD is likely the problem, although I do take steps to prevent it from happening. Anyway, the board is still very much under warranty, and I am very much not willing to spend much more time fooling with it, so I'm RMAing it for a replacement.
