I have just built a PC with windows XP Home, I installed a GeForce FX 5200 256MB Graphics card. I have an 8x AGP slot. All of the other hardware installed just fine except the graphics card. I keep getting the Device can not start code 10 error. I installed the drivers that came with the device and thern I installed the drivers that are on the NVIDIA website. Any help? Please?

I know that the Ultra 5200/5600 series have a requirement for extra power, does your card hae a 4 pin molex connector on it? if so plug it in.

Also, make sure that you install any AGP/chipset drivers before you install the graphics driver.

Boot in safe mode (VGA) and uninstall the drivers & the device from device manager; then reboot let windows discover the card on it's own ( should see it as a VGA device ), Once you are in regular Windows then get the OEm 44.03 drivers from Nvidia and install them.

Usually code 10 is revelant to an driver isssue.

I just checked on the card and it does not have the extra power requirement however it has a white small two prong plug in that resembles the plug in that goes from a cd rom drive to audio card.

Also how do you install the AGP drivers controller drivers?

I orignally let windows find the drivers for it then updated using the ones that came with the card then tried the ones on the website. Another thing that is going wrong that is prolly related is there is no monitor on the hardware list. On my other PCs there was always one.

well that didnt work. I installed the AGP chipset drivers. I started in safe mode and uninstalled the drivers for the Graphics card and let windows find the card then in installed the drivers from NVIDIA (44.03).

It still says the device could not start.

Could this be a bad card?

I don't understand what is going on from your description. Your computer boots up and you can see it booting on the monitor then when your in windows a screen pops up that says " the device could not start." Is this after you install the new drivers and reboot? I mean if you can go into safe mode and see windows your video card is working right? If this is what is happening I would try using the drivers that came with the card. New drivers can sometimes be flaky, you could also try a previous build of the drivers and see if that helps. Detonator drivers can cause headaches. They have for me a few times.
