Now I've got a problem on my pc where I get a black screen while booting and I have to press the reset button a few times before it boots up properly... I heard from this board a while back that it might be a lack of power so I'm wondering if this might be the case... From the original pc that I bought I've just updated the graphics and added 64mb ram. Any way I'm also wondering if any power supply will fit the pc case I've got or do I have to find a specific one, and is it possible that the lack of power could also be slowing down my pc?

Hello gunblade,
More system info would help us here. Has all this started happening since the upgrades. Some older cases and propriatary machines have difficulty with interchangeability. Most of the newer stuff is pretty standard issue now though.

Hi,
I have the same problem as gunblade,
My monitor went blank, but after a few times reseting the computer it suddenly allrite again. Is it really a problem with the power supply or the motherboard ?
please, I really need a suggestion as soon as possible.
my system is amd k6 400 mhz
originally the ram is 128, but i add another 192.
and the motherboard i think it's mvp3g

thanx

Probably a quarter of all PC problems can be traced either directly or indirectly to the power supply. Abad power supply causes intermittant lockups and reboots, as well as intermittent bootup difficulties. Bad power supplies can erase CMOS informatio and sometimes even destroy data on mass storage devices.

I tend to agree that it could very well be a power supply problem, a little more system info is definitely needed, including the number of drives.

thanx mjc,
hmm... about the system info, i'm sorry but i rather new,
so could you please specify ?
as for the number of drives, i assume that you mean only hard disk right ?
well if that's the case i only had one,
if not, then i have 1 cd rom, cd writer, usb zip drive, floppy, and hard disk.
sorry to keep troubling you

noki,

What kind of computer do you have?

If it is an off the shelf system like an HP or Compaq with the drives you have listed (all four of them, the USB doesn't count) then you could very well have an inadequate power supply.

hi mjc,
hmm.. nope my computer doesn't have any particular brand,
i point out the parts that i want (audio, video card etc.) and this shop put it all together.

i guess i have to shop for a new power supply.

thanx for the prompt reply
