this one's a doozie...
either using the battery or power cord, when i power up the laptop the led's come on, the fan spins, the hd spins, but no beep and no display.
it started when the power cord plug in the back of the laptop got loose, so i opened it up and soldered it back in place - because you used to be able to slightly jiggle the cord and that would cause a power glitch and the stupid thing would power off (the battery is crap - doesn't hold a charge).
here's another gotcha. there's no brandname anywhere on this dumb thing. it was purchased back in the mid 90's, so it's slow but it gets the job i need it to do done. on the top behind the screen it says "notebook".... like you couldn't tell. on the bottom it has a label it says "notebook computer" and has a basic cdrom drive and a 4.3 gig hd. the battery model number is 5002d nimh. when i put it back together i made sure i reconnected everything. i still don't get any video when i plug it up to a regular crt monitor.
what i'm wondering is maybe i damaged the mother board when i soldered the plug back in? and if so, how do i find the manufacturer so i can purchase another mother board or can someone help me verify if it is the board. i'm not afraid to open it up and "get my hands dirty."
thanks in advance for any and all advice!!!
